Outside the Box Cooking

Exploring the World, One Dish at a Time

Our fourth- through ninth-grade “Outside the Box” cooking class has been going great this year!

This newer class was created in response to strong student interest in having more cooking opportunities. While we already offer a class focused on nutrition and the benefits of a balanced diet, this one takes a different approach.

In “Outside the Box” cooking, students are introduced to foods from around the world that they might not otherwise try. They’ve explored ingredients like bamboo shoots, a variety of curries, and noodles not typically found in American grocery stores, among many others.

Students have come to love these unique food experiences, as well as the chance each week to gather around a table with classmates and teachers—sharing a meal, talking about life, and enjoying games together.

Honoring Wayne Younger

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Beloved Leader

On March 9th, our friend and former Executive Director, Wayne Younger, passed away.

Wayne was a gentle, kind, and caring man whose presence, voice, and joy filled every room he entered, reflecting a life dedicated to others. He devoted his life to serving his community and sharing God’s love with everyone he met. During his time as Executive Director, he touched the lives of thousands of young people and modeled what it means to be a faithful and compassionate leader.

We are deeply grateful for the time that we shared with Wayne, his love for our staff and families, and his lasting impact on our community. We are praying for his family and for all those who share in our grieving.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 4:00 PM at Allegheny Center Alliance Church Community Hub.

Wayne's family has requested that any Pittsburgh Project folks planning to attend wear Pittsburgh Project swag, like TPP t-shirts, as a fun way to help others identify your connection to Wayne. Do not feel pressured to buy or create anything.
